Sailing on Lake Molveno: Discovering the Best Sailing Area in Trentino

Lake Molveno is considered a perfect sailing area. A fresh breeze always blows on the second largest and deepest mountain lake in Trentino. While sailing over the deep blue, clear water, the feeling of freedom is palpable.

Favorable wind conditions and exciting sailing adventures

The majestic peaks of the Paganella mountain range, up to 2,115 m high, surround Lake Molveno. The barren mountains form an exciting backdrop to the diverse color shades of the water. Lake Molveno is 4.4 km long and up to 1.5 km wide. This size offers the best conditions for varied sailing adventures. The clear, cool water comes from a rushing mountain stream and several small tributaries from the mountains that feed the lake.

A light breeze always blows on Lake Molveno. The wind blows best between March and October. The south wind, also called "Ora del Garda," blows almost all day from spring to late autumn. The excellent wind conditions attract sailors from all over the world. The World Series of the 18-Footers, which once revolutionized sailing as a sport, makes a stop at Lake Molveno every year. Usually, a favorable southern thermal wind builds up from midday onwards for sailing. The thermal is rarely stronger than three or four Beaufort, so even beginners can glide safely over the waves.

Sailing on the largest natural alpine lake in Northern Italy

Lake Molveno is the largest natural alpine lake located at an altitude of over 800 meters. Water sports and winter sports can be perfectly combined here. Technical services for repairs on your sailing boat are available.
